By using a single word,

a committee of Congress has created an international incident with possible consequences for U.S.

troops in Iraq. It labeled as genocide, the killing of 1.5 million Armenians almost 100 years ago,

a description Turkey adamantly denies. Now, Turkey is threatening to cut off U.S. supply lines and attack

separatists in Iraqi Kurdistan. On to the point, what does genocide mean under international law?

Is the congressional declaration long overdue? Is it worth an ill-timed insult to a contemporary
