As Wall Street returned to work after the three day Christmas weekend,

investors maintain the cautious attitude that has been marked

most of the past few weeks.

The major US equityS. equity averages

finished the day with a mixed performance. The NASDAQ closed down 1.4%.

The S&P 500 ended down 0.4% and the Dow finished up 0.1%. Five of the 11

S&P sectors posted losses. This was led by a 1.6% drop in

consumer discretionary.

Tech was also a key source of weakness

with losses seen in Infotech and Communication Services.
