Jack Kornfield trained as a Buddhist monk in Thailand, India, and Burma. He is one of the key teachers who introduced mindfulness practices to the West and has taught internationally since 1974. Jack holds a PhD in clinical psychology and is a founding teacher of the Insight Meditation Society in Massachusetts and Spirit Rock Center in California. He is a teacher, husband, grandfather, entrepreneur, and activist and has authored 16 books that have sold 2 million copies.
Today Michael and Jack discuss:
–Jack’s social activism and his role in the spiritual movement that grew in the 1970s, and how the spiritual space has evolved over the past 50+ years
–Mindfulness and loving-kindness as a tool for self-care and rejuvenation and Jack’s advice to those who struggle with burnout and compassion fatigue
–Insights for activists on how to “live in the solution” vs. succumbing to the overwhelming challenges of the world
–How Jack founded Spirit Rock Center, his online Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification, and a lot more!
Next, Michael concludes this episode with a guided meditation capturing the energy and insights of his conversation with Jack.
