Galatians 5 verse 1. So Christ has truly set us free. Now make sure that you stay free and don't get tied up again in slavery to the law.

Listen, I, Paul, tell you this, if you are counting on circumcision to make you right with God,

then Christ will be of no benefit to you. I'll say it again. If you are trying to find favor with God by being circumcised,

you must obey every regulation in the law of Moses. For, if you are trying to make yourselves right with God by keeping the law,

you've been cut off from Christ. You've fallen away from God's grace. But we who live by the

spirit eagerly wait to receive by faith the righteousness God has promised to us.

For when we place our faith in Christ Jesus, there is no benefit in being circumcised or being

uncircumcised. What is important is faith expressing itself in love. So whenever we talk about

living in the spirit, walking in the spirit,

being in the spirit, there's a couple of ways that Christians can take that. The first one being that

more general terminology in reference to just living for God in general. And then the second way we can

mean that is in regards to choosing legalism over the spirit

or the spirit over legalism.

So let's talk first about legalism.

And for those listening that don't know what that terminology means, it's real simple.

Legalism is man's attempt to do what only God can.

And this primarily has to do with, in most cases, salvation.

People think they can work for their salvation or that they have to perform unto perfection

to keep their salvation. I know I myself used to be really bound by this kind of thinking.
