Paul, the Apostle is exhorting them to walk carefully or, as the English word circumspectly suggests, looking around.

When you walk, look around at the situations.

Look around at the circumstances.

Look around at the opportunities that God is given to you, opportunities that you will never, ever have again in your life.

Therefore, do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.

He says, be very careful then how you should live.

Not as unwise, but as wise.

Making the most of every opportunity because the days are evil.

Understand what the Lord's will is. And then of course in verse 18 he says, do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery, but instead be filled with the Holy Spirit speaking to one another in songs and hymns

and spiritual songs, singing and making music in your heart to the Lord.
