I went through a lot of loss in a short period of time.

I lost my father.

I was laid off from my job, and I had some health issues.

My daughter and I went to joint counseling together, and that was very good for both of us.

But it also brought out, from her standpoint, a lot of truth about how poor father I was during

her formative years.

I grew up as a child of an alcoholic, and he was also verbally abusive.

As an adopted child, you're always told

what a gift that is because somebody chose you.

And then by the time I was 13 or so, I had the realization that somebody had to not want me first.

So that was hard as a 13-year-old.

Just started drinking to cope to numb what I was feeling.

Throughout those years, just my husband and I just drew further and further apart

because he didn't know how to help me, and I didn't know what he could do to help me.

And we eventually got divorced.

I thought I would be married, you know, to my husband for my entire life.
