First Walk and Talk of 2026, wrapping up the first spring under Ryan Silverfield. This one with a 14-13-13 win by the Red Team over the White.

0:12.0

We'll talk about what happened in this game a little bit, obviously the quarterback competition and everything, but it's important to note that there were 14 other practices before this one, 13, 11, I should say, of which were open to the media.

0:23.6

So I want to talk about some of the things that I saw after this roster building process, all the work that they did, putting this together,

0:29.6

65 new players on scholarship on this roster alone. So we've got a lot to get to, probably going to be quite a walk and talk.

0:36.6

As for what happened out here on the field today, probably give the edge to KJ. Jackson

0:40.9

in terms of quarterback competition, just because he did have a 65-yard throw to C.J. Brown,

0:49.2

probably 35 yards downfield.

0:50.6

C.J. Brown did the rest of it.

0:52.9

And A.J. led a couple of touchdown drives, but he also threw a pick six. Probably 53 yards to Song Genu. I think I got that name right. Bear with me if I mess up on some names here and there, if I had to think about a name. There are a lot of players to get to. So probably give the edge to KJ a little bit. Did have some nice throws, picked it up a little

1:12.7

bit more. I think with KJ, he's got to get more consistent. He's, you know, he'll be very accurate, and then he'll just kind of have some lapses here and there, and he's got to get more familiar with the offense, which AJ has a little bit of an advantage because he comes over from Memphis. AJ has got to get a little bit quicker on his throwing motion. He just, he tends to dip the ball way down here, kind of like a baseball throw. It just creates this big looping throwing motion for all the stuff that Arkansas does with a short passing game, throwing swing passes of the running backs, throwing screens, the RPO game. You got to be able to get the ball out quick. So that's something that he can work on. If it's just dropping back and slinging the ball, yeah, he's got a really big arm and can really throw it. So anybody who knows stuff that I've talked about in this off season knows that I've said, I wanted Arkansas to go out, you know, probably have to spend $2.5 million to get a proven quarterback. I don't know that it was a great transfer portal quarterback class, but you just never know what you have at quarterback until it's game time. You can think, you know, go through spring football, fall camp and everything, and come out and think, this is the guy, you know, he gets hurt, and the backup comes in, and you're like, whoa, this guy's a star. It happens all the time. I've mentioned like Stetson Bennett, all the work that Georgia did to bring in somebody else to replace Stets and Bennett. He goes on and wins two national championships. Felipe Franks ended up at Arkansas because he got hurt and then Kyle Trash steps in. I was like, whoa, this guy's really good. So that stuff happens all the time. don't even talk about Drew Bledsoe going down and Tom Brady coming in.

2:36.0

It's his backup.

2:38.0

So you just never know what you got.

2:40.0

That's the thing that scares me the most because overall guys, I like this roster.

2:45.0

And it's important to remember, and we've learned this over the years.

2:48.0

Everybody else has access to the transfer portal.

2:50.0

It's not just Arkansas. Everybody else is able to the transfer portal. It's not just Arkansas.

2:51.6

Everybody else is able to fill in depth and all that kind of stuff.

2:54.6

It's going to come down to coaching, in-game decision making, penalties turn over special teams, of course.

3:00.6

Those are the factors that it comes down to.

3:03.6

They do spend a lot of time working on special teams. They spend a lot of time on ball security work, probably more than I've ever seen in any coach that I've covered. The amount of ball security drills that this team does is a lot. So it would be disappointing if they came out of this with the bad turnover margin. So that's good. Of course, endgame decision making is going to play a big role as well. Let's talk about some of the positions because we got a lot to get to. It's going to be a long walk and talk. It just is. We haven't done one this spring. We usually do one by now, but just the way things played out. So we talked about quarterback. It really is those two guys. Hank Hendricks is coming in, but he's a junior in high school right now. So I wouldn't put too much pressure on him. Too much expectation. Hey, before we get to that, I'd like to tell you about our friends over at Sutherlands. Nice weather. You're probably getting outside. maybe you're looking at a zero turn

3:57.6

mower or something like that and there's nowhere to put it you don't have
