Comedian W. Kamau Bell just moved to New York to do a new TV show called Totally Bias.

But he's originally from Chicago and he spent most of his comedy career in the Bay Area.

There are really weird racial politics in San Francisco.

Yes. I mean, the show was written.

I feel like it was written the way it was written because I was in San Francisco.

Because I felt like coming from Chicago, Chicago is very segregated and very open about

its segregation. There's kind of a sense in Chicago that you could walk into a place and

be like, oh no, we don't let black people in here. And you'd be like, oh, I'm sorry.

And you would just walk out and be like, oh, I'm glad they told me.

That would have been a horrible evening.

That would have been a really waste of all of our time.

But in the Bay Area, there's oftentimes you walk into a place and you feel like,

huh, I kind of get the impression they would rather I wasn't here.

You know, there's a weird sense of I'm 6 foot 4 and 250 pounds.

And often in San Francisco, I would feel invisible in a weird way.
