The case of Melissa Huckabee is one that intrigued me because it was a case of a very

unusual suspect for a rare type of crime. Yeah, this was a while ago and it still haunts me. I never

forgot about this case. No, and I don't think that the community around this case will ever forget either.

This one shocked people and left a lot of questions about the motive, which is also why I chose

this case. And in my original coverage, we speculate as to the causes of this horrific crime.

But I recently came across footage

of an interrogation that I think can help shed a bit more light on this issue. But first,

let's hear our original coverage of the Melissa Huckabee story. And then we'll come back at the end

and discuss motive. In a crime that would shock a California community and the nation,

the murder of 8-year-old Sandra Cantu was pretty quickly solved, but the suspect who emerged

was the most unlikely of suspects and left everyone asking why. This is episode 11, the Melissa Huckabee story. Hi Amy. Hi, Megan. How are you today? Very well. How are you? I'm good. So usually we say we're

excited about our cases. This one is not one I picked because I'm excited about it. This one, though,

I should tell you, is one I picked because I really, really want us to dig in using our

criminologist roots. This is a case in which we're going to look very closely and take apart the causes of crime or

motivations. And so that's why I picked this episode today. I think it's really important.
