Class of midnight this morning, dock workers at every major port from Maine to Texas are on

strike. And this is a huge deal, since more than half of the nation's container imports

and exports flow through the East and Gulf Coast ports.

It comes after a months long standoff between the union, representing tens of thousands of dock workers

who load and unload cargo at ports and the group representing the employers.

They've been disagreeing about wages and benefits as well as the use of automated machinery.

Reports say a strike could have almost immediate impacts on imported supplies that are perishable.

Think bananas, for example.
