Summary
Joe is in, Jimmy is out—but just for this episode. The Fofo got tied up at work and couldn’t record so Jojo had to go solo. Today Joe talks a bit about John Piper’s article, Policies, Persons, and Paths to Ruin and the push back from people like Wayne Grudem, Sam Storms, and Al Mohler. Joe takes some good away from what Piper wrote, but in the end disagrees. And who is Joe voting for anyway?

| 0:00.0 | You're going to. Welcome to doctrine and devotion, a podcast exploring Christian faith and practice from a |
| 0:19.8 | Reformed Baptist perspective. My name is Joe Thorne. I am the lead pastor of |
| 0:24.0 | Redeemer Fellowship in St. Charles Illinois. And Fofo ain't here. |
| 0:29.8 | Unfortunately, out of well over 450 episodes, this is going to be one of the rare ones where there's just one host. |
| 0:41.0 | So we've done this in the past, when we've done interviews off site, but today is just a normal day, but Jimmy can't make it. I think he's getting |
| 0:50.0 | fitted for custom silk pajamas or something I'm not exactly sure I'm at a hundred |
| 0:54.2 | percent but I know he's very busy and he could not get away and it was a last minute |
| 0:59.3 | sort of a thing and we don't want to leave you guys hanging so we are dropping an article with just a co-host like it's just a host |
| 1:07.6 | so you get you get half of the joe foe just the joe I know it's not gonna be as good but we wanted to give you some things |
| 1:14.2 | to think about anyways and Jimmy and I've been talking about some of these things and |
| 1:18.5 | so we're going to get into it today particularly around John Piper's article that he released just |
| 1:28.0 | recently called policies persons ands to Ruin on the Desiring God website. |
| 1:37.0 | Now this has gotten a lot of play, people are writing responses, his friends are writing responses to it it and we've had a number of people ask us if we're going to address his article and so we are going to talk a little bit about it because as |
| 1:49.9 | election day approaches it gets very very close people are more and more I don't |
| 1:57.3 | know not just public but even so almost frantic about who we should be voting for. |
| 2:05.7 | And you know, we're hearing from Piper, we're hearing from Grudem, we're hearing from a lot of different |
| 2:10.7 | people who are not only telling us who they are voting for, but they |
| 2:16.0 | are advocating for particular candidates. |
| 2:18.2 | And there's nothing really wrong with that. |
| 2:21.6 | I think there's value in talking about it and hearing why people are voting in certain |
| 2:24.8 | ways but the tensions are high and the tribal lines have been drawn and so when |
| 2:30.0 | Piper writes this article it's going to get a lot of play. |
