Josh Ernest hurried through the west wing of the White House, floorboards creaking beneath

his polished wing tips.

Ernest is the White House press secretary, and he's speeding towards the press room, now

running a little late.

There's less than a minute before today's press briefing is sent to begin.

Ernest picks up the pace, but he knows there's a good chance he's behind schedule.

Because every day he delivers the news to a roomful of journalists.

There's a military action abroad, tragic violence at home, the latest corruption on Wall Street.

But today, he's trying to be extra careful with a scandal that's unfolding involving

Volkswagen and its diesel engines.

Ernest is fixated on the story.

Maybe he thinks because the company so blatantly endangered the public's health.
