uh... Oh, oh, oh, oh, The The Franks were a group of Germanic peoples and as such their origins are sketchy.

It is suggested that they crossed the Ryan River late in the third century, more or less crossing

from the modern country of Germany into the lowlands of the Netherlands and Belgium in the east.

This may have been around the time that the Roman military commander Coralsius

was asked to deal with the pirates of the seas of Northwest Europe, and namely the Saxons and the Franks.

We don't know a lot about the Franks during this period other than the fact that they were there and they were not

adverse to raiding the Gaelic lands of the Romans.

It would also appear that Frankish warriors were conscripted as mercenaries for

Roman campaigns during their earliest known years of a relationship between

Franks and Romans so it is likely that some Frankish tribes were

Federatei, which means that they were a group of people who had an agreement with the

Romans written into a treaty.
