Now, now. Now, there are now. Oh, The location of this week's episode is in the far southwest corner of the

modern country of Bulgaria where the borders of three countries meet, namely Bulgaria, North Macedonia and Greece.

The specific location of Kolydian is identified as the modern Bulgarian village of Kluch.

This area was on the northern fringes of the ancient kingdom of Macedon that emerged in the early 1st millennium

B.C. to the east was the area referred to

the Healouspont, the waterway separating Europe from Asia. During the 6th century,

the waterway separating Europe from Asia.

During the 6th century, B.C.E, those Asian lands would come under the rule of the

akeminid Persians, who became very interested in invading the Balkan Peninsula, was the home of the ancient Greeks.

The treacherous sea route from Persia to Greece was across the Aegean Sea.

The land route would pass through the Kingdom of Macedon.

The Akeminid Persians initially made the Macedonians their vassals

before absorbing them into their empire on their way to

do battle with the Athenians initially at Marathon and then at Thermopylae.

The Athenians and their Greek allies resisted the Persians and the Persians retreated back to Asia,

allowing the Macedonians to gain their independence and allowing an Adresian kingdom to emerge in the lands of Thrace.

The fourth century B.C. marked the steep rise of the kingdom of Macedon

and its transition into a powerful empire

mainly due to the exploits of Alexander the Great. The Odyssean kingdom was

quickly absorbed during the reign of Alexander's father, Philip II.
