They were used as tombs for the ancient Egyptian pharaohs,

so firstly we should go back to the origin of ancient Egyptian tombs such as the

Mastabas. So what do we already know about the Masseba tombs of ancient Egypt?

The first ones predated the pyramids.

They were often made of mud bricks.

So this would have been a gathering of densely packed materials of the earth, moistened and allowed to dry to create a building block.

The mud bricks would be set out in a large rectangular shape with more courses being added to give the
