Welcome to our Rosary meditation.

I was watching football tonight with my father,

and he asked me,

did you enjoy playing football in high school?

And I said, no.

Now I played varsity, sophomore, junior and senior year, but I did not enjoy it because our coaches were not good coaches.

They didn't teach us the basics and so we weren't good and it wasn't enjoyable. So this week we are focused on the basics of the spiritual life so that you can do them well and experience the great joy of a friendship

with Jesus.

So let's begin in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Amen. That's called to mind all those we've promised to pray for.

We have to begin with the question. What is prayer? St. Teresa of Abla, the great master and teacher of prayer defines it this way.

Mental prayer or meditation is nothing else than an intimate sharing between friends.

It means taking time frequently to be alone with him whom we know loves us.

So prayer is friendship with God, and what does friendship take?

It takes time.

Talking, listening, which means knowing, understanding and loving, and then just being together.

And this corresponds to the three major expressions of prayer defined by the

catechism. Vocal prayer, we're speaking to God, meditation, listening to God,

and contemplation, just being with the one who we know loves us.
