This is VLX number 160, a crown of thorns. We are in St. Matthew, chapter 27,

verses 27 to 31. God give you his peace. In nomadi pati, saffili, it's speedy to sant, amen. God,

our Lord, we ask the grace that all of our intentions, actions, and operations be directed purely to the service

and praise of your divine majesty. In Omni Pachi Sifidi, it's speedy to Santi. Amen. Then the soldiers of the

governor took Jesus into the governor's headquarters, and they gathered the whole battalion before him.

And they stripped him, and put a scarlet robe on him,

and twisting together a crown of thorns,

they put it on his head and put a reed in his right hand.

And kneeling before him, they mocked him, saying,

Hail, king of the Jews. And they spit on him and took the reed and

struck him on the head. And when they had mocked him, they stripped him of the robe and put his own

clothes on him, and led him away to crucify him. Thus are the words of the Holy Gospel.

Let's look at verse 27 again.

Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the governor's headquarters,

and they gathered the whole battalion before him.

The Deueremes says there,

Then the soldiers of the governor taking Jesus into the hall gathered together unto him the whole band. Father Lopide says of that word band, this means cohort.

Father Lopi adds that a cohort was a tenth part of a legion containing 1,250 soldiers,

or in some instances only 500.

This cohort was the Praetorian Band.

Pretorian is spelled P-R-A-E-T-O-R-I-A-N,

which attended pilot the Praetor and defended him against mobs and enemy attacks.
