intentions, actions, and operations be directed purely to the service and

praise of your divine majesty.

Then Jesus told His disciples,

If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross and follow me.

For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake

will find it. For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul?

Or what shall a man give in return for his soul? For the son of man is going to come with his

angels in the glory of his father, and then he will repay each person

according to what he has done. Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not

taste death until they see the son of man coming in his kingdom. Thus are the words of the Holy

Gospel. So if you remember for the second section of Matthew 16, there are three parts of Christian

discipleship and suffering.

In the first part, we talked about how Peter was on top of the world for recognizing

Christ as the Son of God.

And then in the second part, which was last time, we talked about Peter going from being on top of the world to then

then being called Satan for opposing the cross. And then in today's section, the last section

of Matthew 16, the last of the three sections on Christian discipleship and suffering,

we hear that it's not just Peter, but every apostle, every disciple who must take up his own
