There are rumors that Vespasian has been declared emperor.

Fetellius is like, A, probably bullshit. B, don't talk about it and it won't be true.

That's right.

And meanwhile, while he's celebrating his birthday with unprecedented parties in Rome, and he's also running a memorial service for his old friend Nero.

Vespasian's invasion has already started.

So I thought we would start this episode by talking about doing a bio on Vespasian.

Yeah, let's buy all the hell out of him. I think it's a great idea.

So Vespasian was born in the year nine when Jesus was only nine years old.

And there were cousins.

Most people don't know that, but go ahead, go ahead.

He was born Titus Flavius Vespasianus during the last years of Augustus's reign.

Augustus died in 14.

So he would have been five years old when Augustus died.

He was born in a village, a little bit northeast of Rome, called Falakrin.

Right.

And his family relatively undistinguished, lacking in pedigree.

He's the son of Titus Flavius Sabinus, a Roman money-lender, debt-collected tax collector.

His mother did come from a bit better of a family, an equestrian family.
