Bill Henry. I'm just off the main floor of the House of Representatives and we are waiting

now for General Eisenhower to come in. Already we have a tremendous large crowd here.

Just a few moments ago, the representatives of the diplomatic corps came in preceding

them. First of all, the members of the Senate, that they think has been a sort of a series

of setting up exercises for the people who are here because they know sooner, sit down

after the arrival of one group of dignitaries and somebody hits the gavel on the desk with

a terrific wallop and everybody stands up again and a new group of dignitaries come in.

The galleries are jammed to the absolute limit here and so far the Escort Committee has

gone out already now to meet General Eisenhower. The members of the Supreme Court are here.

I could see Doug Justice Douglas and Justice Rutledge. The members of the cabinet have

just come in just a moment ago but I think without any question, the greatest amount

of applause that anyone has had it all so far was given to the group of GI's who accompanied

General Eisenhower across from the other side of the ocean and who were accorded the seat

of honor here in the House of Representatives room. We have just had another wallop of the

gavel and I think now that General Eisenhower is approaching. Yes, I think he's due now.

We're just looking for him.

There's tremendous applause here as the General comes down the aisle. I've preceded by the committee.

He's now approaching the marble rostrum. He looks very happy and healthy. He very steps up now.

Looking, one there he is shaking hands with Senator McKellar and with the speaker of the house.

He looks exquisite and now he's turning around towards the microphone while the crowd applause.

It looks like they're going to applaud all day. He's standing there looking a little embarrassed and bowing and smiling.

The crowd isn't going to give him a chance to start his speech.
