to another episode of Purple Insider one that I didn't necessarily think I was going to do, but here we are, as the

Minnesota Vikings have signed Stephen Gilmore to a one-year $ million dollar contract 7 million guaranteed so I imagine

there's a couple million verses maybe playing time or something like that mixed in

but for all intents and purposes a seven million dollar contract

over one season and we'll find out if there's anything else that's mixed in there as far as his salary cap

hit goes but the Vikings land a long-time veteran

cornerback who was pretty good the last couple years. I want to go over his

numbers with you guys from PFF and what those say about where he may still stand what it means in terms of the implications and what it says about how this team feels about itself and the

cornerback group and who it might impact. Now that Stefan Gilmore is a

Minnesota Viking and just my understanding is that the Vikings went way above what anybody else was willing to do financially for Stephen Gilmore so they bring him in and we might as well start by just talking about the implications of the his

signing doesn't mean a whole lot for the long-term future of the salary cap it's just a one-year deal. That means that after this year

he'll just be let go presumably or sign for another one-year contract and then it will be off the books.

The Vikings managing their salary cap pretty well over the last couple of years

allowed them to walk into this situation where they had enough money to put it down on the table and say all right

Stefan Gilmore come become a Minnesota Viking so that plays into it that they were able to set up the salary cap to be in a good spot for right now to

where they could pay more than some other teams and also you, the having this ability to sign a good player at this point in the year because they had space, which in previous years when they were playing with the last couple of million dollars that they would have to

restructure a contract just to sign their practice squad a little different from years past.

But it doesn't make any difference into the future unless there is from years

tacked on to this. It doesn't sound like from the reports

that that's going to be the case.
