Uh, Dayton Y.T says feels like a natural fit for Josh Matteles to fill in Harrison's role once he retires.

But I would prefer Harrison never retires. Yeah, fair enough on that second part. It does. It does.

And that's why it's sort of like the jeff okuda thing where i oscillate

back and forth between on one hand brian flores knows what he's doing and he gets benefit of the doubt

because he's earned it when he got here this defense was defense was a wreck. It was top five last year.

And they won 14 games and we give Darnold a lot of credit. He deserves it. But he cannot

forget how good the defense was last season. And a lot of the reason why the Vikings were as good

on defense was how good Flores is it identifying talent. So if he says and finding the right roles for guys, right?

So if he says, I want Josh Mattelis to play in more of a deep safety spot on first

and second down, it's I have an amount of skepticism on it because I,

I don't see quite the same skill set as players like Anthony

Harris or Cam Bynum who have succeeded in that role. And yet at the same time,

I have to believe that he knows what he's doing with Josh Mattelis, right? So you kind of back

and forth because there would be no Josh Mattelis if not for Brian Forrest. But I think you

make a good point that it could be a now and later

type of decision. Get the best 11 on the field, clearly one of the best 11. Just fit them in the way

that the best way you can and make the moving parts move. And then after Harrison Smith retires,

that's your new Harrison Smith. I think that's a fair.

I think it's a fair theory.

I think it has a lot to do with Dallas Turner.

And I think it has a lot to do with the front being as good as it is.

So now you kind of want to play a base defense more often.
