this week, J.P. Morgan promoted two executives to Rolls Mini Reckon, put one of them on track to take

the reins from Chief Executive Jamie Diamond. But that's not happening anytime soon.

Diamond and the board had agreed that he would stay on for another five more years.

That'd mean he'd spend 17 years atop the lender.

Antony, as our resident bank watcher, what do you think about this decision?

Well, I mean, you've got to feel for the board. It's, it's very difficult at the moment

to say no to Jamie Diamond and to get rid of him. Actually, when I say get rid of him, I just mean

at what point should someone who's been in command for 12 years already be asked to step down?

And he's been doing a good job, right? With one big exception, yes.

But in general, I mean, he has created one of the best investment banks in terms of

revenue and quite possibly other metrics as well. It's one of the best retail banks in America at least.
