Summary

Roblox is now making kids as young as nine upload a video selfie or ID just to use the chat. The whole point is to keep minors safer by limiting who they can talk to, but in what world should a 9-year-old be uploading a video of themselves so that they can play a game?

We also discuss people and companies holding on to tech longer than the makers of it intend for them to, Insurance companies claiming AI to be too much of a risk, and what tech Robb is picking up on sale over the holiday.

In this episode of the Tech John, we discussed Roblox requiring 9-year-olds to submit video age verification, not upgrading tech as often as companies would like, insurance companies saying AI tech is too risky, and Black Friday tech we might pick up over the holiday weekend. We've got all this and more for you in episode 204 of the Tech John from Columbus, Ohio. I'm your host, Rob Dunwood. And coming out of Philly,

0:21.2

it's your girl tech life stuff. And out of Atlanta, this is Terrence Gaines, aka Brother Tech,

0:26.3

aka, I don't know if you can read my shirt, but who made the potato salad? Thanksgiving is not

0:33.5

my favorite holiday, but it's just a time to relax and just eat some good food.

0:40.3

So I always bring out my yearly shirt to remind people what time it is.

You just can't eat.

Legitimate questions.

Legitimate question.

0:49.6

It should be, you should have a list, though.

Potato salad, macaroni, and cheese should be underneath potato

salad. Because, like, though, I think those are two things. Like, anybody can kind of do the turkey,

1:00.9

but the potato salad and the mac and cheese. I need to know who's on, who's on carb duty.

1:07.9

Particularly because I was going to say particularly, I look for a potato salad, like either

1:13.9

just potato salad or deviled eggs.

1:16.0

So that's my main thing.

1:18.0

Now, you're right about the macaroni cheese, but my main thing is, it's like, who made

1:22.8

a potato salad?

1:23.7

Right.

1:24.5

Those two dishes, they can be made so many different ways. So you got to know who makes it.

1:31.3

And they can go so wrong. It's like, why do you have raisins in it as compared to folks who don't?

1:40.8

And then with the mac and cheese, it's like, you know, some folks, you know, they put cream cheese in it and it's kind of milky. And some folks is, you know, it's thick to where you put a fork in it can pick up literally the entire dish with one fork. So it's just depends on who's cooking it. So, but, uh, so folks, uh, you heard me say episode 204. And if you paying attention last week, I also said episode 204. I don't know why, because I was wrong. It was 203 last week. And I think I even had 203 written in the show notes. It still said 204. So yeah, we have a 204. This is the real 204. I check to make sure when we're going through it. So I apologize for that.

2:18.9

But we're going to go ahead and jump into some of these tech stories today.
