This is Gala Avery reporting to you about this week at the Video Archive Cinema Club, the 20-seat secret cinema located within the Vista.

Today, I am joined on the airwaves by my partner in crime, Video Archive Cinema Club manager Matt Lansman to chat about the calendar for the week of Monday, January 27th.

0:21.6

Hey, Matt. Good morning, Dala.

0:22.6

It is a wonderful morning here in Los Angeles, and let's get right on into the movies.

0:28.6

First up on Tuesday, January 28th, we have a sold-out 2 p.m. showtime of Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia. From 1974, which many people

0:42.9

considered to be the last true Peck and Paw film, the director himself claimed that it was the

0:47.9

only one of his films to be released exactly as he intended it. I love this movie. Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia might be my favorite peck and paw.

0:57.6

If you've listened to the Video Archives podcast, you will know that Quentin and I at one point did go toe to toe on Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia.

1:07.1

I don't know if it's one of his favorites, but it's definitely one of mine.

1:10.5

And I think that even when Joe Dante came in for The Fool Killer, Quentin and I went back in on it again about bringing me the head of Alfredo Garcia off mic.

1:19.5

So it's definitely something that is in the ether of video archives.

1:23.0

And I am so excited that they are showing it this month.

1:26.8

I love this movie.

1:28.9

I think that it was so ahead of its time in a way in terms of how dark and how nasty it gets

1:35.9

that I think a lot of people at the time kind of didn't like it necessarily.

1:41.6

And it wasn't like a huge hit from what I've read because I think that

1:46.2

people thought it was just so dark and so grim but hey uh roger ebert on the back of this box

1:52.3

says it is a strange weird masterpiece actually the funny fact is that I saw this movie

1:58.4

because right when Matt and I first met way, way long ago at a

2:02.5

tape swap, he gave me a selection of tapes. And some of them I still have not watched, but one of

2:08.5

them was bringing me the head of Alfredo Garcia. And I think Matt might have the tape that he

2:16.1

gave me that I gave back.
