43, the U.S. government announces that as a quote, wartime necessity,

it would limit the amount and quality of meat products

To support the troops abroad, the government argued Americans would have to limit their consumption

This effort would come to include some rationing 2.5 pounds of meat per week for every adult 1.5 pounds of meat for kids.

It also came with some good old American spin.

These new meat products came to be known as Victory Sausages.
