Victor Davis Hansen is a fellow of the Hoover Institution at Stanford University and Professor

Emeritus of Classics at Cal State Fresno. He is the author of many books, and I would say one of the leading cultural commentators in the United States today, and actually for the past couple of decades.

His new book is The Dying Citizen, How Progressive Elites, Tribalism and Globalization are destroying the idea of America, our topic today. Welcome, Professor Hansen.

Thank you for having me. First, let's just do some definitions that come up early in the book.

Who are the, quote, progressive elites? Who do you mean by that? These are people who are, can be defined economically, socially, culturally,

politically, but they tend to be people who have Baster's degrees or more commonly even

graduate degrees or professional degrees. They tend to be active in areas that I would call

media, academia, corporate world, entertainment, foundations, as opposed to the muscular classes or the earthy classes.

By that, I mean, they're not lumberjacks.
