It seemed like a normal Thursday at the Letcher County Courthouse in Kentucky.

Inside, folks were gathering in Judge Kevin Mullen's chambers as he was holding court with his friends. In fact, that crew went to lunch in downtown.

But after lunch, everything changed.

This normal day was turned upside down when Sheriff Mickey Stein shot and killed the judge in his chambers on camera.

It was a scary, surreal moment for everyone.

And tonight, for the first time, we will see the video of the moment the sheriff surrenders to police.

But first, it was Thanksgiving of 1998 when Norma Patton said goodbye to her daughter Melissa

and told her she loved her.

That would be the last conversation they would ever have.

Melissa went missing.

And for years, it remained a mystery

but in reality part of that mystery was solved quickly when some of her remains were recovered

chopped up in black trash bags in Atlanta Georgia not far from where she lived but for several years

those remains were unidentified until 2003, when the Flint River

killer was arrested, a man who admitted to being a serial killer. That man is Melissa's father.

While the mystery continued, even after she was identified, as it would take years.

Decades for someone to actually be charged with Melissa's murder.
