Breaking news coverage of Hurricane Helene's expected landfall in Florida tonight continues right now

Good evening, Alex. We're going to get to Andrew We're going to get to Andrew We're going to

other news, but we are going to begin with the hurricane. We're going to get

straight to it. Thanks. Thank you. Well as you just heard from Alex Wagner there

are 600,000 people already without power. We're going to go straight to

NBC News, meteorologist Bill Cairns at this hour for the

latest on exactly what the track of the storm is. Bill and what do you see coming?

Lawrence, we're into the impact zone.

We're now watching that northern eye move on shore.

And it's almost the equivalent of like a tornado that's 40 miles wide

that's now moving into Florida and it'll knock down just about everything in its

path unless it's not made of like concrete or brick. So you can see where the

storm is, you can see clearly where the eye is, it is intensified all afternoon and all evening long. It is a solid category

for almost to the higher end of category four. The hurricane hunters are in it. They

said it's still intensifying right up until landfall and you can see that eye.

This is the coast here and this is where the really destructive winds are and now they're

starting to close in on some of the populated areas. This blue box you see here. This is what we call an extreme

wind warning. They are only issued when we have hurricanes with powerful eyes making

landfall. This is the equivalent of a tornado warning and so they're telling everyone from Tallahassee to cross city including Perry here up to Madison along I 10 get to your storm shelters or get to your shelters interior rooms clos closets, bathrooms,

use blankets, pillows, try to get as many walls

between yourself and the storm,
