But first, it's Veterans Day. And the mantra of Never Forget has begun to take on some tragic new meaning for those who came home from the battlefield, but then succumb to mental health issues at home.

Now, veteran suicide is a very tough thing to talk about or to listen about, but it has become epidemic.

According to the most recent VA report, there were more than 6,000 veteran suicides each year between 2008 and 2016, with the rate climbing nearly 26% during that time period.

There was a slight decrease between 2015 and 2016, which is the last year there's public data for, but in that same period, there was a spike, a big one, in prevalence among veterans between 18 and 34 years of age.

Equally troubling?

Veterans are more likely to attempt suicide with a firearm than are non-veterans, and that's generally considered to be the most lethal technique.
