Summary

It was a Liverpool career cruelly cut short by injury. But Vegard Heggem is able to appreciate what he did achieve rather than dwell on what might have been.Nearly 15 years after he was forced to retire at the age of 27, the former Norway right-back's bond with the club remains as strong as ever. The 42-year-old discusses the journey which led him to Anfield prior to Liverpool paying £3.5million to sign him from Rosenborg in 1998.He talks about the experience of having joint managers in Roy Evans and Gerard Houllier before the Frenchman assumed sole control.Heggem, who featured prominently for two seasons under Houllier, speaks about the highs and the lows of his career, and explains why David Ginola was his toughest opponent. He was part of the Liverpool squad which won an historic Treble in 2001 but a succession of injury setback limited his game time and led to his retirement in 2003.
