Now I promised you that we were going to devote the rest of this year to learning to live a beautiful life.

And we were made for excellence to become excellent human persons sharing in the very life of God,

and in this process of our transformation, the good example of others is extremely helpful. For many years I've always had some

biography of a saint at hand to read, to inspire me by their heroism, to keep so that I will keep going and not give up or give in to a

mediocre way of life. The only sadness in life is to not become a saint and to live a life of mediocrity.

Now to overcome our continuous slide back into mediocrity we need the virtue of zeal. Zeal is a determination to follow the excellent example of others, especially the Saints, like Maximilian Colby, St Faustina, Catherine of Siena, Trisa of Siena, Teresa of Avla. We could go on and on. We should even be jealous of them.

Yes, jealous. Now this may surprise you, but the word jealous comes from the word to be zealous.

determination to become a saint like some of our favorite saints but in our own way
