According to her family and friends, Vanessa Gien wanted to fight for her country.

That's why she joined the army and at the age of 20 private first-class

Gien was in the Regimental Engineer Squadron at Fort Hood in Texas. But in late

April of this year, as the country and the world dealt with the looming COVID-19

health crisis.
