Throughout the 1960s, Hammer continued making Dracula movies, all of which starred Christopher

Lee. Dracula, Prince of Darkness in 1966, Dracula has risen from the grave in 1968. Taste the

blood of Dracula in 1970. But by scars of Dracula later that year, it was clear that the popularity

of the franchise was starting to wane. Hammer was also competing with Egear more modern horror films

coming out of the US at the time, like Night of the Living Dead, Rosemarie's baby, and even a

vampire movie set in the present day, Count Jorger, Vampire. So, in 1972, Hammer decided to do something

new and different with their Gothic monster series. They brought Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing

back in their iconic roles as Dracula and Van Helsing, but they brought them forward in time to the

20th century. Both Dracula AD 1972 and the Satanic right of Dracula the following year proved that

it was still possible to do something fun and original with this character. And although the critical
