The 2010s saw the emergence of a new generation of talented horror filmmakers who all helped usher

the genre into a new golden age, Jennifer Kent, Jordan Peel, Robert Egger's Julia DeCourno,

and Ari Aster. But one particular new horror filmmaker from this decade would go on to become one

of the most prolific and successful. Mike Flanagan burst onto the horror circuit in 2011

with his low budget horror absentia, and then went on to have several successes within the genre

over the next few years. Movies like Oculus, Ouija Origin of Evil, and Hush proved he was able to

make truly scary movies about characters that audiences cared about and rooted for. In 2017,

Flanagan defied expectations by successfully adapting a Stephen King novella previously thought

of as unfilmable, called Gerald's Game. He then defied expectations again by creating a fresh

and original adaptation of Shirley Jackson's The Haunting of Hill House.
