Hi, I'm Jamie, host of Murderish, the podcast. On Murderish, I give you a 3D look at gripping murder cases,

0:07.0

just the facts, no banter. By the end of each episode, you'll know who was involved,

0:11.8

details of the crime, and what went down at trial. Also featured on Murderish is my own personal

0:17.7

story about the time a man followed me home at night, and I found him

0:21.7

in my bedroom. Listening to this podcast doesn't make you a murderer. It just means you're

0:26.4

murder-ish. Listen to murderish on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.

This is the Valerie Amaldivar story. Hey, AIM.

1:00.6

Hi, Megan.

1:01.9

So I'm assuming you know from the intro why I chose this case.

1:06.2

Yes, because you just had a trip to Puerto Rico.

1:09.5

I got a new mug.

1:10.5

Oh, my gosh. You know what's cool is that you tend to draw from your trips when you travel. You come back and you usually try to, you find inspiration when you travel. Almost every ever since we started the podcast, I've covered a case from anywhere I went, I believe. And that's both, I think, domestic and international. Oh, yeah. I think it's great. You always come back with, like, a fire under you. Like, I'm going to cover something from here. And I'm sure that our listeners in Puerto Rico will really appreciate this. And actually, you know, I met some friends in Puerto Rico, you know, people that live local. And I was asking them about any cases. And I wanted to do a case of a woman who was a

1:46.4

tourist because I was a tourist in Puerto Rico. But fortunately, there were no cases that I could find

1:52.9

of a woman being murdered or of murdering anyone or any sort of women in crime story of a tourist

1:59.9

in Puerto Rico. So I was happy to hear that.

2:01.9

That's very good news. Yes. I mean, there was a really high profile case of unfortunately a tourist who got

2:08.9

murdered in Puerto Rico, but it was a male. Okay, I see. But still. Yeah. So anyway, so I found this case

2:15.7

because I was particularly looking for a case local to Puerto Rico. And I realize one of the reasons I don't choose more international cases is because it's really hard to find primary sources in English.

2:27.3

Yes. Yes. Or so I thought. Apparently technology has come a long way. And I learned that many websites, you could just click on translate and the website could be automatically translated in real time. Did you know this? This is probably something that's existed for years, but you and I are just like Luddites or just like have no clue. People are like, yeah, guys, 10 years ago. Yeah. So also, you know, I've been learning Spanish. I've been learning Spanish for quite some time, but I've really been upping it lately. So this was a good way to practice my skills. So it was fun because I researched it in English, but, you know, there was still Spanish in there. So that's very cool. I do have to apologize in advance, though, for my pronunciation issues in this episode. People who are Spanish probably heard me pronounce the woman's

3:09.8

last name and they're probably cringing a bit, but I'm doing the best I can, okay? That's all we can do,

3:14.4

Amy. That's all we can do. All right, so let's get into today's story and meet the woman who is at the
