What I want to do is mix this into the conversation that we're having about the Lions. And yesterday we talked about it of like, look, he hasn't signed yet, but here are our initial thoughts. Okay, I'll lay this out and then people can attack me if they want to.

I don't have a huge response either way to this, meaning I'm not jumping for joy and I'm not

flaming it. I just don't think either of those responses are appropriate. I'm taking it the same

way I took the Jonathan Smith hiring where everyone lauded it and I went, wait a minute,

there are a few problems with this. Doesn't mean I don't like the guy, but here are my concerns.

With Fitzgerald, I don't think there is a doubt in my mind.

His ability to be a fundraiser, his ability to galvanize the donor base.

It absolutely, while this is Sparta thing and it predates him, make no mistake. You're

not hiring someone who can't add to this, who can't get donors to do more. And Michigan

State's going to get somewhere in the tune of $400 million Saturday against Duke from one

particular donor. I think until I see his staff and until I hear the words from J. Bat,

Michigan State Athletic Director, that we are going all in on NIL,

I can't sit there and act like any coach will work at Michigan State.

I need to see those two things.

If he goes out and hires his buddies from Northwestern, I'm done.

I'll shred it.

I'm not having it.

But the negatives are what they are, meaning hasn't coached in three years, does not have a roster to poach.

And again, he was an offensive dinosaur who was very stubborn his last three years at Northwestern.
