Good morning. It's Thursday, which means it's time for high-wire death-defying talk without the safety net.

I know you're all getting really addicted to these prop openings, but I want to strip it down a little bit today.

And just talk about where this show is coming from, what we're doing and why I'm doing high-wire.

You know, stories tend to break when things change in science or things change in a story.

It's only a few people that get it right. That's what makes history.

There were a couple movies just, I think, two years ago now since we're all re-through the Academy of Season that were both up for nominations.

I want to talk about them because they represent what happens when a few, a handful of people search out real truth.

Let's look at the first clip. This is Spotlight.

I know there's things you cannot tell me, but also know there's a story here. I think everybody will hear about it.

Do you think your paper has the resources to take that on?

I do. Do you?

The Boston Priests, the last of the kids in six different passions over the last 30 years, the jerk found out about it and did nothing.

They knew and they lightened happened. They could have been you. They could have been me. They could have been any of us.

Spotlight actually won the Academy Award two years ago. If you haven't seen it, it's an amazing film. You really ought to check it out.

But what was that story about? That was about a story that we all heard rumors for years and years and years that young boys were being abused by Catholic Priests.

But nobody wanted to do anything with this story. The police didn't get involved. The politicians didn't get involved.

The Cardinals of this massive organization were moving these priests, not putting them in jail, not having them arrested, not defrocking them and putting them back in the private sector group.

Just moving them from church to church to try and hide the fact that they were injuring children.

This was a very difficult story. I think it's very similar vaccines in that the Catholic Church is there to do good. It's there to help people. It was really hard for people to wrap their mind around the fact that someone that's preaching God and preaching about the teaching of Jesus and loving one another would be abusing children in the most horrific ways.

It was just a handful of investigators, reporters from the Boston Globe, that called themselves Spotlight, that decided to get to the bottom of the story.

To start opening up real files, really investigating the story, they broke it, not the police, not the FBI, not the CIA. It was just a handful of reporters that finally got into this story and broke it for the world to see.
