Summary
The U.S. women's national team's 2024 Paris Olympics adventure is not over. After a 1-0 extra-time win over Germany in Tuesday's semifinal, Emma Hayes' team will take on Brazil for a gold medal this weekend.
On this special match-reaction Full Time podcast, Tamerra Griffin and Steph Yang break down how the USA stayed cool to survive and advance in a crunchy knockout affair against Germany. From Sophia Smith banishing the ghosts of the 2023 World Cup; to just how unstoppable Naomi Girma was in Lyon.
Speaking of Lyon...Meg Linehan calls into the show, from France, to get the podcast caught up on her takeaways from the mixed zone with the players and coach. What was Hayes' reaction to taking the USA one step closer to Olympic gold? How was match-winner Smith feeling after one of the biggest moments of her career so far?
Tamerra and Steph also play 'Gold, Silver, and Bronze' (giving out medals to their favorite moments from both the USA's win over Germany and Brazil's stunning 4-2 win over Spain.) Before then closing out the show with a preview of the upcoming gold medal match between the USWNT and the Selecao Feminina. Could this be Marta's last-ever tournament match for her country?

| 0:00.0 | August 6th will forever live in infamy for the U.S. Women's National Team. |
| 0:17.2 | Welcome back to full-time. |
| 0:19.5 | Our Olympics episodes, I am Tamara Griffin, joined, as always, |
| 0:22.8 | by Steph Young. And, like always, so much to get through, even though we only had two games |
| 0:27.8 | to watch today, which felt like a bit of a vacation. But a lot happened. We are going to unpack |
| 0:33.0 | the U.S. Women's National Team's 1-0 victory over Germany, thanks to a 95th minute goal from Sophia Smith. |
| 0:40.5 | We definitely have a lot to talk about with Brazil's four to two victory over World Cup champions, Spain. |
| 0:48.2 | We're going to hear from Meg, who was in Lyon for that U.S. Germany game. |
| 0:51.8 | And, of course, we're going to be handing out gold silver bronze medals, |
| 0:55.1 | previewing these upcoming medal matches. But first, Steph, how are you doing? This was still a lot, |
| 1:01.7 | even though we didn't watch nearly as many games. But... Right. But the closer you get to the gold medal |
| 1:07.4 | match, right, the weight it builds, and it builds, and it builds. And then the coincidence you noted that it's a year to the day medal match, right? The weight it builds and it builds and it builds. And then the |
| 1:11.9 | coincidence you noted that it's a year to the day since the United States got melbied. Melbied, |
| 1:17.5 | not the verb. I know. It really feels like a lot is not necessarily coming together, but like I was thinking about how before this tournament, |
| 1:31.4 | you know, I was trying to talk to the players about like, what's the vibe with the team? |
| 1:34.7 | It's newer players. It's a different group. And they're like, it is new. It is different. We honor the |
| 1:39.9 | past, but like we are making our own thing. It's our own vibe. And that's really what it feels like, |
| 1:47.8 | even if we, we are about to relive USA, Brazil, like 2007. But here we are, right? And I mean, |
| 1:55.4 | the thing that I was already kind of tickled by the similarities in these semifinal matches, |
| 2:00.7 | because both of these |
| 2:01.5 | teams, of course, met each other in group stages, U.S. and Germany, Spain and Brazil. But even in the |
| 2:07.0 | short course of this tournament, these four teams looked completely different against each other. |
