Hello,

Hello, Hello everybody and welcome to a Tuesday episode of The Total Soccer Show.

0:25.5

Oftentimes Tuesdays are USM&T and Lass Americans Abroad shows.

0:30.5

Today is no exception because we've got a USM&T game to break down, recap, deep dive,

0:35.5

analyzed to do so.

I'm joined by Joe Lowryry joe lowry how is your

0:39.1

second viewing of usa four jamaica too it was great no complaints whatsoever i mean i have i have some

0:44.3

minor minor complaints that i'm sure we'll get to you later on but i enjoyed this game i said it last

0:48.3

night on the quick take review this was a fun game and we don't have to make super wide sweeping

0:53.6

statements about what this means for the united States. There are some things that it means. There are plenty of things that it doesn't mean. And one of those is what you just whispered into your microphone. But this was a fun game. It was fun to watch the U.S. put the ball in the back of the net. Sometimes the shots go in. Sometimes they don't. And last night they very much did. And there was very much some good stuff leading up to those shots as well. Dude, totally. Totally agree on all the counts. And I will start there with the idea that this is just a fun game. And that's what I was struck by in the rewatch is how much movement there was on and off the ball, how quickly the U.S. was moving it and passing. And then trying individual dribbles,

1:27.7

don't get me wrong. But I think so often we see the U.S., especially against Concaf

1:32.1

opposition, sort of play down a level or play down, like, tempo, essentially, and don't move

1:38.5

the ball quickly and start a little bit slow and try to have a very firm foundation of control

1:43.5

and possession and making sure they're moving the ball and not losing it.

1:48.0

And that can be really good, but it oftentimes means that they don't take advantage of early opportunities and they don't really take full control of the game.

1:56.7

By contrast in this one, the first 15 minutes, it's just entire U.S. dominance and really the entire first half, I think we talked about in the Quick Take, hot take.

2:04.0

But in the rewatch, I'm struck by just how much the U.S. shifted around, the fluidity of their shape we talked about in the quick take, but really emphasizing that on the rewatch, how oftentimes players were just in different positions and then five seconds later were somewhere else on the pitch. But it all seemed to be sort of, if not programmed, that at the very

2:22.6

least there was an awareness amongst the team that movement and quick movement of the ball were

2:26.9

the priority. And it showed. And so I think that made it just a more engaging, enjoyable game from

2:32.4

the start. Something that I keep coming back to for Maricio Pocitino's teams when we're talking about

2:36.4

fluidity and talking about the movement off the ball, which for me, even though we talk

2:40.9

about how Pocitino is using mostly similar structures in possession and buildup and mid-block
