Summary

From Serie A to the Championship, this week’s USMNT Abroad is packed with drama, goals, and global headlines. In Italy, Christian Pulisic and Weston McKennie faced off in Juventus vs AC Milan’s scoreless draw. Pulisic’s rare penalty miss ended his perfect start to the year. Over in Germany, Noahkai Banks scored his first-ever Bundesliga goal in front of his entire family. Does he deserve a call-up in the November window? In the Netherlands, Sergiño Dest returned for PSV, going 73 strong minutes, while Ricardo Pepi was left off the bench.  EPL delivered chaos as Tyler Adams helped Bournemouth climb into UCL contention, Chris Richards went the distance for Palace, and Brenden Aaronson started in Leeds’ narrow loss to Spurs. Are we hitting the panic button over Jedi Robinson’s situation with Fulham? In the Championship, Haji Wright stayed scorching hot, while Josh Sargent continues to slide. We also hit on Philadelphia’s Supporters’ Shield win, Messi’s hat-trick of assists, and UEFA’s controversial decision to approve domestic league games abroad, including LA Liga games in the United States.  CHAPTERS: Intro (0:00)Pulisic misses 2nd-ever pen (4:42)Dest & Jedi's injury status (10:00)UEFA matches Abroad: La Liga comes to US (25:46)MLS Recap: Union's Shield & Messi shines (31:09)MLS vs Europe: USMNT Roster Edition #AskAlexi (46:28)Pochettino's lack of communication (59:34) Learn more about your ad choices. But a lot of this group has kind of grown up and we have seen them since they were teenagers, since they were young men. But now they are men, and they are being treated like men by Mauricio Pochitino. And I think that this group needs that. I'm not worried about him missing a penalty. And if the World Cup started tomorrow, I still think for Pochitino that he is the penalty kicktaker. Are they good soccer players or not?

0:21.7

I don't care where they play.

0:23.4

When that whistle blows, to be quite honest,

0:25.4

people forget very, very quickly where you play.

You know, Hello, Sunshine. I'm Alexi Lollas, and welcome the State of the Union podcast, where we look at the beautiful game on and off the field through the lens of red, white, and blue colored glasses.

Now, this show will be talking, ooh, Policic glitch, La Liga, coming to America, Haji with the right stuff, Kamala, Philly Love, the U-20s, old-school Pocetino, and so much more. But first, you know me as always my friend, my colleague, my guiding lights, David Mossier, a soccer savantvant and a Fox Soccer researcher and writer extraordinaire. Mossie, how are you doing on this? What are we looking at here? Monday, October 6th in the year 2025. I'm doing well. Another blockbuster show today. We got a lot of stuff to talk about. Well, when you walked into the studio, I asked you about what you wanted to talk about, and you said,

1:29.6

I got a bunch of stuff that I want to mention that you either read or saw or want the folks to know,

1:34.5

including Titanic stuff. Is that right?

1:36.8

Yes, I'm going to separate all my things out over the next couple of shows, but I'll mention this here.

1:41.9

As you know, I'm a history buff, a big Titanic buff, and I went to the Beverly Center recently. They have this virtual reality Titanic exhibit. You put these goggles on it. It transports you back to the Titanic, the way it looked back then. You walk around the ship, see all the different rooms. And then when you're out on the deck, it hits the iceberg and you have to get on a raft and then from the raft you see what the ship looked like when it sank and you learn all about it the history of it

2:06.9

the building of it and then obviously the aftermath of the tragedy so worth it definitely worth i enjoyed technology enhances obviously the experience and puts you there

2:16.7

absolutely and you know there's a movie

2:18.7

2:31.5

you know me i'm a big political guy and junkie, and this is right up my alley here.

2:36.2

I thought it was interesting, not necessarily revelatory or anything like that in terms of new things,

2:45.0

but a wonderful kind of look behind the curtain. Evidently, it's everyone's fault. So whether it's Trump or Biden or the media

2:54.3

or the Democrats or the Republicans or the courts or the corporations, the strategists or the staff,

3:00.4

or Fox or Musk or social media or podcasters, and Miba, evidently, it's a lot of blame to

3:07.4

go around here. I will say,

3:10.0

you know, I recognize that like no political campaign is perfect and it's a work in progress like

3:14.8

anything else. But you start reading this and, you know, some of her and her staffs, I guess,
