I'm trying to be a street cop.

I'm in the office a little early this morning and I'm trying to bring a video to you guys before I had to run out and do a few things today.

Just to make sure I got one in.

And I know I've been doing a few things basically on the New Jersey level for the past couple days, but I do want to talk about some stuff that's going to apply to everybody. And that's employing contact and cover. I know it sounds like it's a bullshit academy thing, but I can't tell many times in the field that I called for a backup unit that I needed for an investigatory stop. And a guy showed up and began asking questions to my passengers

and my detained occupants i am not calling a second unit because i needed a detective come to

the scene and figure out that i've oldest shit that i've already figured out how many times guys

showed up and go they're like uh hey where are you guys coming from where you're headed to

today hey bro or sister i didn't call you here

because i needed you to ask questions to begin an investigation i've already gotten that covered

for the past five minutes i need the secondary unit to stand here off to the side of the road

to watch traffic the car and the occupants to make sure that you, me, and them don't die in some kind

of crazy, crazy event that may have unfold on the side of the road. So know who you are.

If you show up as a contact officer, I'm sorry, as a cover officer, and you know, you're there

providing cover, you're a safety officer you're not an investigator

so if you show up and maybe you see something that your partner didn't see we want to say to

them hey man come up here let me talk to you for a second that's what i'm doing to a scene and

i was your backup officer i wouldn't jump in and start taking over your investigation i would say hey

hey joe oh you're just so you know I saw this.

I don't know if you saw that, it's over there.

Oh, thanks, okay.
