Summary

The USC Triple-Double Podcast returns with co-hosts Shotgun Spratling and Connor Morrissette (aka Mr. Triple Double) reacting to the breaking news of USC hiring Eric Musselman away from Arkansas to becoming the Trojans' new men's basketball head coach followed by a break down of the Women of Troy's season coming to a conclusion in an Elite Eight loss to UConn following a thrilling Sweet 16 victory over Baylor.

Shotgun and Connor break down the good and the bad of the Musselman hire and discuss what it means about the current state of the USC men's basketball program and the trajectory going forward. They also look at the roster Musselman will inherit and where he'll have to make some big additions before the Trojans head into the Big Ten next season.

After a short break, the podcasting duo break down the final weekend of play for the Women of Troy, who defeated Baylor 74-70 in the Sweet 16 to advance to their first Elite Eight since 1994. There the Trojans fell to Connecticut 80-73 despite 29 points and 10 rebounds for JuJu Watkins, who was elite except for a fourth-quarter stretch when she couldn't make a shot and UConn couldn't miss that ended up determining the game. When Watkins went cold, there was no one there to pick her up as USC's role players, who had been so good all season fulfilling their roles, weren't able to do so in the biggest matchup of the season.

The Triple-Double Podcast comes to a conclusion for the 2023-24 season with Connor and Shotgun discussing the Trojans potential going forward into the offseason.

Connor, big news coming out of USC today. The Trojans have a new men's basketball coach and Eric Musselman. Let's start there. First initial reaction. We kind of were hearing things. We finally were

everyone's kind of getting different sources telling us different things and

we're kind of hearing. It's all leaning towards Eric Musselman when it started to be more and

more clear that that was going to be the case for USC and that was going to be the

hire what were your thoughts on that for USC? Yeah really happy with the hire for sure. The Musbus is coming west and I feel like he was always kind of a leader in the clubhouse to get the job and sometimes these searches it can kind of wind and one time one guy looks like oh he's going to get it and then a couple days go by or a couple hours go by sometimes and it's like oh maybe not but from the beginning from the beginning, it felt pretty good about Musselman. He was in our original hot list. I said on the show last week, he'd be my ideal candidate. So I don't know if he's a guy who stays for like 10, 15 years. He is in his upper 50s, I think, but he's a guy who's

going to recruit really well.

1:37.9

He knows the transfer portal really well.

If you just look at what he's done at Arkansas,

we can get into it a little bit.

I think he's going to give some juice and some buzz to a USC program coming off a year that

they really struggled, which is significant.

I'm in on the hire.

I'm really excited about it. and I think Jen Cohen and USC got a good one.

It will be interesting to see the duration of his tenure at USC. So far in his coaching path, you know, especially as a head coach, the last couple
