Summary

The USC Triple-Double Podcast -- the Peristyle Podcast's basketball-focused podcast -- returns with co-hosts Shotgun Spratling and Connor Morrissette (aka Mr. Triple Double) breaking down the latest news and notes surrounding the USC men's and women's basketball programs, including the men's 60-51 win over Loyola Marymount in their first of two exhibitions. But first the podcasting duo are joined by sixth-year senior Auburn transfer Chad Baker-Mazara, who talks about how his basketball journey has taken him from the Dominican Republic to New Jersey and Ohio to Pittsburgh, San Diego and Florida before a two-year stint at Auburn and now back to the West in Los Angeles. He discusses how the preseason practices have been going for the Trojans, the big takeaways from USC's exhibition victory and how he's fitting into a new role this season with the Trojans. Baker-Mazara talks about his relationship with Rodney Rice and the rest of teammates before discussing his recruitment to USC, including a FaceTime with Eric Musselman that had CBM in disbelief and how trash talking Musselman's wife during his time in the SEC actually ended up strengthening the player/coach bond. After a break, Shotgun and Connor discuss what they saw from the exhibition and what can be gleaned from the action that featured 7-foot-5 Gabe Dynes coming off the bench to score nine points with eight rebounds and six blocks. The podcasters then discuss the Trojans' first two commitments in the 2026 recruiting class, twin forwards Darius and Adonis Ratliff, sons of former NBA All-Star Theo Ratliff, and talk about how viable it is for them to become immediate impact players at USC. So let's get the hoop season rolling. We still got to finish football, of course, but excited to see what the women's team look like. And I know we're going to talk a lot about the men's team today after their exhibition win over LMU. So yeah, getting closer and I am very excited. Now, I know it's the by week for the football team. You're getting caught up on some hoop stuff during the football team's bye week.

great time for them to pick up a double commitment on Wednesday. So, you know, is it just a hoops week along with a couple of football practices kind of thrown in there? It's definitely a hoops week. But as you can hear the plane flying over my head right now, it's also still a football week, so I'm here at practice on campus. But yeah, watch the exhibition game and had a chance to speak with Eric Musselman and some of the assistant coaches this week. So definitely double dipping this week. Well, for any first time listeners, the USC Triple Double podcast, part of the Peristyle podcast family shows. The USC triple double is a podcast focused on the Trojan men and women of Troy basketball programs. Each week during the season, we'll be breaking down all the latest action for both teams. We'll be looking forward to the upcoming matchups, all that type stuff. During the season, we'll typically have a guest from the men's or women's teams join us. And this week's no different. As we now welcome in six-year senior wing, Chad Baker-Mazara. CBM arrives at USC after a winding basketball journey. It's taken him from his hometown in San Diego and San Diego in the Dominican Republic to Colonia, New Jersey, Geneva, Ohio for some high school ball. Then he went to Pittsburgh and San Diego to play at the mid-major level for Duquesne and San Diego State before a year at the junior college level in Florida, two years at Auburn before choosing the Trojans as his transfer portal destination this offseason.
