Ackton, Ackton, welcome to We Have Ways of Making You Talk USA with me, Al Murray, James

0:15.1

Honn and John Mannes.

0:17.1

Well, the last time we spoke, we were talking about the Guadalcanal campaign. I think it's

0:21.1

not right to call it a battle really, is it? It's a 360 degree, three-dimensional campaign,

0:25.8

isn't it? Lansy, spanning the same kind of time as we said last time as Stalingrad. As

0:32.8

you pointed out last time, John, offering some similarities as well in terms of how the

0:36.7

two sides digest the event or deal the event. But where did we got to?

0:41.8

We got to Buddy Ridge, Adneway or Notto, but in October, 7th or 7th.

0:46.8

1:13.7

like Stalingrad, but it's as if you had Stalingrad, but also another city that was frittering

1:19.3

off German resources, too. And John Key to it is Henderson Field, isn't it?

1:24.7

Ganderson Field is the whole crux of everything. And this is named after Naviator, isn't it?

1:31.0

Yeah, Major Lofton Henderson, who was a marine aviator, killed in the battle in Midway.

1:36.5

And of course, as the Marines land in August 1942, and they start to basically improve

1:41.8

upon what the Japanese had already done and complete the aerial field.

1:45.3

That's right, because the first story, so the first airfield that's built on Guadalcan

1:48.8

has built by the Japanese in July. Did you lie? Something like that?
