Yes, the US played and Los Angeles was the venue.

0:29.1

And just like Thanksgiving, Turkey was on the menu.

But it wasn't as sweet as stuffing and pie in the dying moments.

We were denied a tie.

My name's Ryan Bailey joining me today. Taylor Rockwell. Hello, Taylor. Hello, Ryan Bailey. That's some lovely rhyming, given that I'm assuming you had to rewrite your rhyming introduction. I did. It was a little short, that one. Last kick in a game, changed things for old rhymezone.com, didn't it? I imagine not just you. I now think of the exasperated curses that came out of that press box when that goal happened and a lot of articles had to be changed or adjusted, probably more than slightly. I've been there. I think we've all probably been there. It's the worst feeling in the world. I don't know how these guys do on The Whistle Reports. when things are going smoothly, I have no clue when there's a late goal

1:13.8

as there was in this game. I don't know how these guys do on the whistle reports when things are going smoothly.

1:11.5

I have no clue when there's a late goal as there was in this game.

1:15.0

It's so stressful, having done a few match reports earlier in my career,

1:18.3

because you basically write the middle bit, then you write at the end and the beginning at the end of the game,

1:23.4

and then you have to rewrite those top and tails when a late goal goes in.

1:27.0

Especially in a game where, as like we've talked about previously, I'm sure we'll talk about it again, there's not a ton at stake, given that the U.S. had already secured top spot in the group, given how much they rotated the team. And so I imagine a lot of articles pointed to like, it's actually a positive sign that with this squad, they were able to get a draw against Turkey, you can't take a ton away from it, but, you know, still a good thing. And then that goal happens. And not that that immediately means that everything is much more negative, but I don't think you can write the same article being like, ah, you know, it doesn't matter as much when you lose a game. I imagine then you have to kind of change the tone a little bit.

2:01.4

Is that true, Graham? Do you then have to kind of like change, do you have to go through this, like, with your

2:05.8

source and change? Graham, Robbins here, Graham. Hello, I mean, yes, it does kind of expose the fickleness of the

2:13.6

journalistic narrative around games where I have been there where depending on whether a goal goes in or not, you completely change your angle on, which is just the way it is, I guess. I'm not quite sure we're there with this game, as you say, Taylor, not a huge amount riding on this game. And I don't know whether people are going to get mad in the comments about this, but I thought it was quite positive for the US, considering the number of changes. This is a entire, this is full rotation from Pochstein, with the exception of one player of Weston McKenney. And yet they were still able to hang with a strong Turkey team. I'm not trying to deny, it clearly, stating the obvious, would have been nice if the US had held on for a point at the end and not lost the game, but the sky is certainly not falling in. Definitely not. It's a power trio tonight, by the way. Joe Lowry is at Sofire Stadium, no doubt having to rewrite things in the last moments of that game. Joe, of course, joined Asofiah with the likes of Owen Wilson, James Cameron, Leo DiCaprio, Ed Norton talking to

3:08.7

himself, which was weird, wasn't it? That was an odd one. Also, we had Paris Hilton presenting

3:13.5

the match ball in a denim kit dress. I have to say, that was hot. It was a lot of celebrity

3:20.2

watching this evening, and that was fine, I guess, although given the ticket prices when we last looked at them, there was a slight bit of jealousy that I think they probably didn't have to worry about the exorbitant prices for this final game. Oh, you don't think they had to go on FIFA.com and Ticketmaster? Probably not. I'm guessing that. I'm guessing they put a phone call to an agent, and the agent secured them tickets. Or a booth. Must be nice. Must be nice. Where's our booth, huh? Yeah, Tara.

3:44.5

Come on. Lovely skyline. What more do you need, man? It's great. Los Angeles HQ for Total Soccer Show is quite wonderful. We're very happy out here indeed. And, you know, there was a loss tonight, USMNT, to Turkey 3. But to quote the Great Rock and Wycliffe Jean, it doesn't matter. Right? It doesn't. That is true. And that is you both, I think, have the correct perspective. I will acknowledge up front that I am obviously going to be, like, more emotional when it comes to the U.S. I think I tend to have bigger swings in that regard. And I can't shake a little bit of a feeling that that final goal does just hurt the momentum a little bit. That might just be for the fan base more so than the players, given the situation in the lineup. But for the way this game played out, for the way the U.S. were able to get back into it when at the end of the first half, it looked like they had no answers and were going to be completely overrun, that they then do get the equalizer, that they're pushing for the winner, that they have really good chances, and then ultimately concede ones so late.

4:39.4

Like, you could just hear it completely deflate the stadium.

4:41.6

And I think what could have been a sort of triumphant procession into the next round instead felt like more of a muted we're still okay right

4:49.6

that's not that big of a loss and it's not but i think it just takes the air out a little bit and that
