As we record this podcast, it's the early hours of the morning on the west coast of America

and after a standoff, Riot have entered a pro-Palestinian

protest camp at the University of California and Los Angeles known as UCLA.

The police began demolishing barricades and shifting the protesters after they

defied an order to disperse. Similar protest camps against the Israeli war in Gaza have been

dismantled at other U.S. universities in recent days, including in New York

and Dallas.

Our correspondent, Helena Humphrey, described the moment the police operation got underway.

Police have broken through that perimeter.

They are dragging away the barricades.

You can hear what appears to be fireworks right now, more of the California Highway patrol going in, those fireworks continuing to go off,

and it appears that they may be making some arrests.

Certainly people appear to be coming out with their hands tied behind their back.
