0:14.8	Tomorrow is the big day that some of you have been looking forward to. Others have been dreading and some are just
0:22.3	looking forward to getting it over. I'm talking about election day here in the United States of America.
0:28.6	And we have Dr. David K. Bernard with us to talk about how this election affects Christians
0:34.5	and how we should approach the election. Dr. Bernard, it's great to have you.
0:38.8	It's great to be here. Well, you've talked a lot about elections and Christians, how Christians
0:44.2	should respond to elections. So I want to ask you today, obviously there's a big election tomorrow.
0:49.3	Voters in the United States are going to the polls to select the next president of the United
0:53.3	States. You've talked
0:55.8	about stewardship and a lot of people are asking, why should I bother voting? So people in some
1:02.4	states, including my home state, we already know, I could tell you without question who's going to
1:08.8	win in my state tomorrow. So there's probably people in my state and people
1:12.0	in my situation who are asking, why should I even bother voting? How would you respond to that question?
1:17.9	Let me take a big view and then a more restrictive view. First of all, we should care about our
1:24.0	nation. That is biblical. If you look at the Old Testament, the Psalms told Israel,
1:31.2	pray for the peace of Jerusalem. Even when the Israelites were in exile in Jeremiah 29, it said
1:38.0	to pray for the peace of the city where you are. Peace in Hebrew, Shalom, means wholeness, health, much more than just a peaceful
1:46.6	relationships, but the preservation, health, and well-being of the community. So we should care about
1:52.9	the community, the city, the country that we're a part of. And we do find examples in both
1:59.9	Testaments of people who are godly people who are involved
2:03.3	in secular, even pagan governments. So you have Joseph, you have Daniel, Shadrach, Meshaq, Abednego,
2:10.3	you have Esther. In the New Testament, you had the Roman dictatorship, the Roman Empire oversaw the tiny nation of Israel or Palestine,
