Summary

Casper Ruud and Carlos Alcaraz will face off on Sunday with the winner becoming US Open champion and the new World No.1. It could hardly get more tantalising. In this podcast, we chat about how they both got there, with Ruud winning a 55-shot rally and surviving a mini Karen Khachanov fightback, and Alcaraz once again going the distance late at night to beat an inspired Frances Tiafoe. How well did Ruud handle the match and the pressure of being the favourite? And what made Alcaraz vs Tiafoe such a special occasion? We also discuss the men's doubles final, review some of the biggest stories from the wheelchair events, and preview tomorrow's women's final between Iga Swiatek and Ons Jabeur.

at Flushing Meadows. We are between sessions now because we've just seen the first of the men's

single semi-finals. So what are we about? Seven o'clock in the evening as we come to you.

0:36.1

We'll have a part two to this edition of the tennis podcast to look back on the night session,

0:41.3

but it is I think a lovely time of the day here, especially with the weather like this. It's

0:47.1

fresh. It's been warm today, but it's not been too warm. Looking around us, we have the sun setting

over the practice courts to my right. In the distance, I can see the grandstand court and the

the skies are sort of pale orange and a pale blue all at the same time. The floodlights are flickering

on it. I mean, it really is an amazing place to be. There's a buzz around Flushing Meadows at the

1:09.6

moment. And Catherine, we've just seen Casper Rude win through to the final in four sets.

1:17.1

I kind of feel that was what I was expecting from that match in terms of the feel of it.

1:23.0

Because you had the newsletter reductions. I mean, admittedly, I didn't go for Casper Rude.

1:27.4

What did you, what did you two go for? Rude in four. Oh, all right. Okay. So it's another

1:33.2

surprise that Catherine and Matt are what, so ever. You were getting at the field, though, weren't you?

1:38.0

And I share your view completely. Yeah, I was because, I mean, I actually found it a really

1:45.6

intriguing match because of of what's on the line for both of them. They're both first time semi-finals.

1:52.0

In fact, all four of them are first time US Open semi-finals aren't they? So it's just such a huge

1:57.6

deal to them both. And watching them try to navigate that when Rude is quite clearly a better

2:04.2

player, but that doesn't guarantee a win. It's such a, it must be such a moment in his life to try
