Summary

Catherine Whitaker pre-warned that Kei Nishikori and Michael Chang had been plotting the downfall of Andy Murray on the practice court, and they got what they wanted in the US Open quarterfinals.

Murray had lost over five sets only twice in 8 years - both of them to Novak Djokovic - but for once he dipped into his enormous reserves and found nothing there.

Afterwards, Catherine and David Law got together to discuss the match, Murray’s struggle to deal with some of the distractions on the court, and the possible reasons.

They also cover the wins of Karolina Pliskova and Serena Williams, as the semifinals approach.

your immediate reaction to to the match to the shock result to everything. Yeah it is a bit of

1:10.4

a shock result. I am surprised because I think it's um 16 of his last 18 five-set matches Andy Murray

1:18.9

as one and the only guy is lost to in that period is no joke of it. Shond to occasions. I think

1:23.6

in the Australian Open when he just started with Lendel and at the French Open last year so

1:29.9

the number of times that we've seen him in that position digging it out makes you feel as though

1:35.8

he's just going to do it again and he very nearly did do it again but equally I look at

1:42.9

kind of Shakurri here two years ago in a very similar kind of match against Novak Chokovich and

1:48.8

again at that time he would have been thinking this is Novak Chokovich you know this will turn this

1:54.1

will you know and Shakurri is actually when he's playing really well he's good enough to live with

2:00.1

them from the back of the court. Now you may say oh well that wasn't the real Andy Murray out there

2:04.9

or it wasn't the real Novak Chokovich two years ago but I think that that would probably do

2:09.9

Shakurri a disservice because he can go toe to toe and then he puts the doubt in the mind
